This adapter cable powers SATA drives and devices from a legacy 4-pin Molex peripheral connector on your ATX power supply. Useful for adding storage to older systems or working with PSUs that lack dedicated SATA power connectors.

4-Pin Molex Connector - Connection Tips

Important: The 4-pin ATX peripheral (Molex) connector is a legacy design with looser manufacturing tolerances that can make connections challenging.

Why connections can be difficult:

  • Older connector design with wider pin tolerance ranges
  • Sleeving and heatshrink near the connector can create tension on the pins

Connection tips:

  • Twist the wire bundle gently behind the connector housing to relieve tension
  • Visually inspect pin alignment before attempting connection
  • Apply gentle, even pressure - forcing the connection can push pins out of position
  • If resistance is felt, stop and check alignment rather than forcing
